You’re planning to take a babymoon, that last vacation before your welcome your addition to your growing family. But you’re already aware that you need to save money so you can’t go as extravagantly as you’d like. Fear not. Here are five babymoon destinations for less than $2,500.
Newport, R.I. –
You can see how the wealthy Vanderbilts, Astors, Wetmores and Wideneers lived without having to pay to live that way. There are plenty of mansions to tour. Pick one for $17.50, two for $27 or five for $35. Then stay at the Vanderbilt Grace starting at $800 for two nights. You get daily breakfast for two, in-room amenities, pre-natal yoga. Request a butler to draw your bath the night you arrive. Go home with a soft blanket and a plush toy.
Oheka Castle, Huntington, N.Y. –
Fans of “Citizen Kane” might recognize the house from the opening scene. But you’ll get pampered in luxury the way Charles Foster Kane would have expected. The Last Night of Sleep package is $1,120 and includes overnight accommodation in a deluxe room, three-course dinner for two, strawberries dipped in Belgium chocolate, in-room side by side massages, a gift blanket, plus a guided property tour.
Hotel Ranga, Iceland –
If you can handle the nine-hour flight to Reykjavik, it will be worth it, especially to see the Northern Lights (October to March, typically). But there’s great seafood and fowl dining, a variety of massages, hiking and exploring. And it could cost you as little as $350 for airfare per person (LAX to KEF) and $300-$375 a night at the hotel.
4. Hotel del Coronado, San Diego – The beachfront scenery is iconic, the Victorian style is unforgettable, and you can either explore the museums and world-famous zoo or stay on Coronado Island and swim, sun and bike. A prenatal massage is $175; a couples runs $190. The rooms are $350 a night.
The Lafayette Inn, Easton, P.A. –
You get full breakfast and snacks 24-7 if mom-to-be gets a craving. It offers a babymoon package for $499 that includes a night in a suite with fireplace and whirlpool tub, a one-hour prenatal massage for the mom-to-be and a Swedish massage for the non-pregnant partner, a gift basket loaded with spa goodies, homemade cookies and non-alcoholic beverages in-room, a gift for baby, and a $50 credit for dinner at Megs and Mads restaurant, located a block away.
