It can sometimes be hard to associate the city of Los Angeles with the three must have “R’s” of pregnancy: rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. However, not every place in this crazy city is off limits if you’re sporting a baby bump. Though pregnancy isn’t always glamorous, it most certainly doesn’t have to be boring. We’ve got seven, simple ideas to get you out of the house and into the fast lane of L.A.
To kick things off, we’re first going to state the obvious: a spa. For our flawless mommy’s to be, we’re not recommending just any spa, we’re recommending the prenatal spa. Los Angeles has quite a few prenatal spas ready right now to pamper you. Olympic Spa is an Asian spa and retreat located in Koreatown. They boast a plethora of services including body treatments (with massages to die for), acupressure, skin care rituals, a beauty boutique, and a Korean restaurant. Raindrop Bodyworks on Overland is very popular with locals and they take great care of your sensitive, pregnant body. Finally Zen Mama, also in Koreatown, is always at the top of LA Spa lists. No matter what you’re in the mood for, or what your price range is, we’re convinced that you’ll find something here that is right for you.
Second on our list is something that promotes relaxation while getting in some mild exercise. Meetup.com is a website that allows people of all walks of life to come together through the shared joy of a common interest. This site hosts a wide variety of meetings, and one that really stood out for this topic was the LA Pregnancy Walks Meetup Group. Because the walking groups are never in the same place, this is an excellent opportunity to explore different types of terrain, while meeting an influx of other expecting women. Friends and exercise, nothing better!
Next you can explore the past through the LA museum scene. There are a myriad of options when it comes to museums in LA, but one that specifically stands out is none other than the La Brea Tar Pits. This site is home to the world’s most famous Ice Age fossil excavation site, and hosts a large number of exhibits, a fossil lab, an atrium, Ice Age encounters, and a 3D theater. Even if you’re not a science or history buff, this museum is guaranteed to blow your mind. An added bonus is that the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is right next door. You can walk here and marvel at incredible pieces made from artists like Andy Warhol to Jeff Koons.
Our next idea most assuredly promotes the three “R’s” of pregnancy. Number four on the list is to have a good, old fashioned staycation. Traveling can be tough during pregnancy, but day to day life in LA can be tougher. The Arroyo Vista Inn is a charming little bed and breakfast that was built in 1910, overlooks the Arroyo Seco seasonal river, boasts a 4.5 star rating, and is now currently less than one mile away from the Arroyo Seco Golf Course. For your pleasure, each room is adorned with a four poster bed, a balcony, private bathrooms, luxury toiletries, and whirlpool tubs. The lovely hosts to this inn add to the quaintness by including a gourmet breakfast and complimentary tea in the afternoons. It almost sounds too good to be true!
Our fifth idea definitely brings back some high school nostalgia. What can you do in the evening, without alcohol, without too much intensity, and without the worry of feeling tired the whole time? Putt putt mini golf, of course! Reminisce back to your earlier years at Sherman Oaks Castle Park. Not only is it silly enough to keep a smile on your face, one game of eighteen holes is less than seven dollars, with three dollar replays after the first round. The décor is great to look at, and if you get tired of practicing your short arm, Sherman Oaks Castle Park is also home to an arcade fit for all ages.
Number six on the list is to sit back and let someone else do the entertaining. At Keith and Margo’s Murder Mystery Dinner Show, the only thing that you’ll need to do is watch and enjoy. Each murder mystery dinner includes a professional performance by trained actors, a murder mystery guide and solution kit, and of course, a three course meal. This show is put on every Saturday in the heart of Los Angeles and has gotten nothing but rave revues. Keith and Margo’s puts on a show for a full audience, but they do also host private events if that is more your style. This idea keeps you on your toes while allowing you to be seated.
Last but not least, our final idea for the adventurous pregnant women in Los Angeles is to go out with the girls, or even with your sweetie, and hit the town for nothing but desserts. What could be better? Everyone knows that pregnancy can sometimes, if not most of the time, enhance the craving for sweets so why not cut out the middleman in the form of dinner. Eat something light, then head on over to My Sweet Cupcake, a vegan bakery located in the mission district of LA. Not only will these desserts satisfy your cravings, but they also cut out the foods that can be harmful to your body during your pregnancy. These cupcakes are delicious and guilt free!
Pregnancy isn’t always glamorous, and it certainly doesn’t always make things easy. We hope that with this short list of ideas, you can begin to build your own itinerary for the duration of your pregnancy. It truly should be an amazing time where you are able to live your life to the fullest, while carrying the fullness of life. Remember to treat yourself while taking it easy, and always, always remember to keep the three “R’s” in check.
